How Can I Be More Feminine? | What We Can Learn From The Moon (Astrology)

Some women have expressed to me that they have a hard time being feminine, and many are confused about what femininity is.
Being feminine is not about applying lipstick, getting a mani/pedi, or perfecting a seductive catwalk in six-inch heels. It's a way of being. It's about cultivating good feelings and being receptive to getting what we need from our environment. By understanding the Moon in our astrological chart, we can learn more about this alluring force.
To start, the Sun is our masculine energy and the Moon is our feminine energy. Every person, regardless of gender, has both yin and yang energy. However, we tend to identify more with either solar (active) or lunar (receptive) energy.
The Moon is the planet of femininity because it relates to the mother and is about receiving and being nourished. The Moon is what we’re used to; that’s why it’s known as our conditioned consciousness. By studying the state of our Moon in our birth chart, we can tell a lot about our mother and the environment that we were brought up in. How was our mother with us when we were babies? Did she have a tough time nurturing because she had to work two jobs? Perhaps she gave us too much attention, and it felt as though we were tightly swaddled in a wet blanket. How suffocating and uncomfortable that must feel!
Some children were neglected or yelled at when they belted a blood-curdling cry to alert their mother that they needed milk. If this was the case for you, perhaps the message you received before you could walk was, “You’re not gonna get your needs met in this world, so if you want something, you gotta do it yourself.” This subliminal message can force a person to rely on their masculine energy rather than being open to receiving nourishment from the world.
Doing, acting, and pursuing what we want is the masculine energy that generates progress and innovation in the world. We all have to go into our yang energy at times. For example, when we teach something, we’re utilizing our masculine energy, and when we receive information, we’re in our feminine energy. The issue becomes when we’re too much in our masculine energy or too much in our feminine energy or when we’re wielding these forces inappropriately. Ideally, we should be able to utilize the appropriate energy for the situation at hand healthily.
If we’re not used to receiving what we need to get nourished, we may overcompensate by doing too much and not receiving. But where does this leave us to receive love, support, and gifts? On the other hand, when we’re too much in our feminine and waiting for good things to come to us, how do we get a job that helps to pay for the things we need and desire?

The Moon is also about being in touch with our intuition, feelings, and spirituality. When we have a solid Moon in our charts, we’re guided by our inner knowing. We may not know why we shouldn’t go on a second date with someone who seemingly checked all of our boxes or why we decided not to go to work on a day that a tragedy happened, but we’re in touch with something hidden within us that gives us this supernatural ability. However, when the Moon is afflicted (this can happen if the Moon is in the same sign as Rahu, Saturn, or Ketu), we can be confused about reality, or we can be so traumatized that we may operate on pain and fear, instead of what our inner guidance compass is telling us. When we have a blemished Moon, we may think that a person who’s trying to help us is our worst enemy.
The femininity of the Moon is about being able to identify our first and true emotions. An example of a true and first feeling is admitting, “I feel sad when my partner has to work long hours because I miss him/her.” A false emotion would be expressed as lashing out at the partner for coming home late without communicating to them how he/she truly feels.
Why isn’t femininity just about getting a mani/pedi, a massage, and going shopping for dresses? These qualities are ruled by the planet Venus. Yes, Venus expresses yin energy but it’s different than the feminine energy of the Moon. The feminine energy of Venus is about enjoying and receiving external fulfillment from the world, such as getting a massage, going on vacation, enjoying a cozy home, resting & relaxing, and taking care of the body. Having a good Venus is extremely important for enjoying our journey on Earth and for having a smooth ride. It helps us to replenish our cells and body after dealing with toxic situations and doing the heavy lifting at work. Karoshi is a Japanese term that means “death from overwork”. If we don’t get any rest, which is a Venusian thing, we can die, literally. We need a good Venus in our charts to allow us to get the good things from the world and to help prolong our lifespan by taking care of our bodies.
Venus’ energy also helps to make life worthwhile during our time on Earth and can play a role in us embodying our feminine energy. If we make certain lifestyle choices that don’t allow us to take care of our bodies, then that can take a toll on how we look, and our beauty may fade faster. Beauty is another characteristic of Venus.
Again, the femininity of the Moon is different from that of Venus. The Moon concerns our inner fulfillment and the happiness that comes from within. We’re happy because we feel good about who we are, and we’re receptive to receiving more good things in life. We don’t want to be around people and situations that make us feel bad, so we avoid them when we’re used to feeling good. An individual is happy and doesn’t seek to get attention from others or have to hurt others to make herself feel better.
In sum, many women aren’t in touch with their feminine side because, for whatever reason, they have to or feel they have to be in their masculine energy. It’s essential to be open to receiving more goodness in your life. If you don’t have much support, you take care of loved ones, or you have to work hard to make ends meet, make it a priority to receive something good each day. If someone offers you a compliment or help around the house, your first instinct may be to push those kind gestures away because your conditioned conscious may be used to being in the driver’s seat. But practice receiving in any way you can. Also, notice the different ways in which you may be operating in your masculine energy, like when you feel that you have to pursue a partner instead of healing your pain and blossoming into a better person so that you can attract the right person for you, like a bee drawn to pollen. And lastly, get in touch with your true emotions, which can connect you with your God-given intuitive and psychic powers.
